Modernizing Talent Functions with Technology: Insights from UNLEASH World

TTL Staff

At Talent Tech Labs, we had the privilege of participating in UNLEASH World in Paris, where we hosted a thought-provoking panel discussion titled “Modernizing Talent Functions with Tech: A Panel Discussion with Today’s Leaders.” Moderated by our Co-Founder and CEO, Brian Delle Donne, the panel featured esteemed industry leaders Michael Fraccaro, Chief People Officer at MastercardIan Bailie, VP of People Strategy and Operations at Synopsys Inc; and Caroline Smith, Chief People Officer at esure Group.

As part of the preparation for the event, the exceptional UNLEASH editorial team conducted interviews with some of the speakers as part of their Path to Paris content. A significant focus was on the analyst community, which plays a crucial role in understanding industry trends. One standout interview was with Rana Fatima from Talent Tech Labs, who discussed the latest innovations pouring into the talent management sector. The current landscape was described as a “gold rush,” highlighting how vendors are responding to the increasing demand for innovative solutions. You can read the full article here.

As organizations continue to navigate the rapidly changing landscape of talent technology, the insights shared during this session were both timely and critical.

Key Takeaways from the Panel

The Accelerating Pace of Change

Brian Delle Donne shared a powerful observation: “Today, we’re stuck using yesterday’s paradigms and strategies to plan what and how we implement for the future.” This sentiment set the stage for a robust conversation about the urgent need for modern approaches in talent functions.

Prioritizing User Experience

Michael Fraccaro shared insights from Mastercard’s implementation of Gloat’s Talent Marketplace. He stressed that user experience (UX) must be a top priority; prioritizing it led to an impressive 90% signup rate and 35% active monthly users. He also highlighted the necessity of strong executive leadership support and the importance of building solid partnerships with technology providers.

Building Integrated Solutions

Ian Bailie emphasized that technology should be designed with employees’ needs in mind. At Synopsys, the realization that employees preferred a single interface led to the development of the MySynopsys chatbot, which integrates access to HR, IT, and finance. This approach not only enhances usability but also streamlines processes.

Measuring ROI and Impact

A major theme of the discussion was the need for talent and HR leaders to improve their ability to measure ROI. Ian stated, “We’ve got to get better at thinking like a business and measuring the impact that these tools provide.” He pointed out that organizations must focus on measuring impact at a granular level, analyzing all touchpoints and friction across their technology tools to understand their effectiveness fully.

Defining Clear Objectives

Caroline Smith offered practical strategies for leading successful transformation projects. She advised leaders to be clear about the specific problems they aim to solve. With so many technology solutions available, it’s crucial to identify the most relevant ones without overwhelming the organization. Caroline also recommended engaging with other talent leaders who have firsthand experience with the technologies being considered, as vendor-provided case studies may not always reflect the reality of implementation.

The Path Forward

The insights shared during this panel are invaluable as organizations strive to modernize their talent functions. By prioritizing user experience, building integrated solutions, measuring ROI effectively, and clearly defining objectives, HR leaders can leverage technology to drive meaningful change within their organizations.

As the talent tech landscape continues to evolve, it’s essential to adopt forward-thinking strategies that will help organizations not only keep pace but also thrive in the future.

We extend our gratitude to the UNLEASH team for their partnership and for hosting such an inspiring event. We look forward to continuing these conversations and helping organizations navigate the complexities of talent technology!
